Character Education Field Trip
On Friday, November 16, 2009 the 6th graders of Tonalea Elementary School traveled to the PERA Club for a Character Education Field Trip. While there Celeste Perez led over 500 students in reciting the Declaration of Independence and Jenna Marsh (shown in the picture) read her winning essay about her hero, Larry who is her step father. In addition, students got a special surprise being a visit from our own Govenor of Arizona Jan Brewer!

Annual Turkey Trot
Once again we are planning to host the annual Tonalea Turkey Trot. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. Parents are invited to attend this fun outdoor event where classes "trot" around the field in hopes to win a turkey for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please mark your calendars and plan to come to watch (an maybe even participate in) our annual turkey trot.
Pearson Group promotes Read for the Record at Tonalea
Members of the Pearson Group visited with Tonalea students to promote the program Read for the Record which reaches out to students to promote literacy.conducted a read-a-loud to all 4 Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. They also generously gave a copy of the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar By: Eric Carle to EVERY STUDENT! “Jumpstart’s Read for the Record Campaign has provided more that 500,000 books to children and families who need them most and raised critical awareness of the importance of reading.”
